British population continues to grow as Torrevieja tops 113,000 residents

The Costa Blanca city continues to attract thousands of international residents from across Europe and beyond

Torrevieja’s population boom shows no sign of slowing down, with the Costa Blanca city now officially home to more than 113,000 registered residents.

New figures released by the town hall show Torrevieja’s population has reached 113,453 people, further cementing its reputation as one of Spain’s fastest-growing and most multicultural municipalities.

More than half of the city’s residents now come from outside Spain, with over 62,000 foreign nationals officially registered on the padrón.

Among the biggest international communities in Torrevieja are Ukrainians, Colombians, Russians, British residents and Moroccans.

The Ukrainian population is currently the largest foreign group with 10,787 registered residents, followed by Colombians with 5,892 and Russians with 5,834. The British community remains one of the most established in the area, with 4,671 UK nationals officially registered, while 3,743 Moroccan residents also now live in the city.

Town hall figures also reveal just how quickly the city continues to grow. Between January and March this year alone, municipal staff processed 3,568 new padrón registrations.

The local Census and Statistics Department also handled more than 10,500 official certificates during the first three months of 2026, highlighting the growing pressure on council services as the population rises.

April was particularly busy after the launch of Spain’s extraordinary regularisation process for undocumented migrants. During that month alone, another 1,355 new residents registered in Torrevieja.

Council officials said staff continue working to manage the increasing demand for administrative services linked to the city’s rapid expansion.

Over the past decade, Torrevieja has become one of the fastest-growing medium-sized cities in Spain, with its international population continuing to reshape the area’s identity and community life.
