Spain's most famous party town has a new tourist route and it's all about the perfect selfie

Calvià council has installed phone stands at the most photogenic spots in Magaluf so tourists can capture the town in a whole new way

Magaluf might not be the first place that springs to mind when you think of scenic photography routes, but Calvià Town Hall has gone ahead and launched one anyway, but images can be deceiving and reputations can often be a little undeserved.

The council has installed a series of phone stands at some of the most photogenic spots around Magaluf, giving tourists a chance to capture the town properly rather than just squinting into the sun and hoping for the best.

Four stands are already in place along Passeig Calvià and near the beach, with three more due to be added shortly at the Torre de Torrenova estate.

Each station is geolocated, so you can find them easily through a mobile app that also gives you background information on the spots you're photographing and an audio guide in several languages. To get started, you just scan the QR code on any of the stands.

The route is part of the broader 'Magaluf for All' plan, which aims to encourage a different kind of tourism in an area more usually associated with late nights and lager.

The idea is to get visitors engaging with the place a little more thoughtfully, taking in everything from the Mediterranean beach to the more rural corners of the area, and maybe leaving with a slightly different impression of a town that tends to get a pretty one-dimensional write-up.

For anyone spending time in Mallorca this summer, it's a fun way to see a familiar name through fresh eyes, even if you do still end up in the pub afterwards.
