The world of flying is often very safe these days, but there are still risks involved with flying and that is why the EU periodically reviews its air safety list. The main party responsible for the inclusion of these airlines on the blacklist is the Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) which has banned 129 airlines from flying in the EU skies.

Moreover, there are about 100 certified airlines in 15 countries that have “poor safety procedures” and 29 banned airlines which have “serious problems”. Twenty-two of these have a certification from Russia.

Air Tanzania has been the latest airline to make it onto this list of 29 airlines that are viewed as being terribly dangerous. Apart from the airlines from Russia, the other six airlines that are not to be flown on are Air Zimbabwe, Avior (Venezuela), Blue Wing (Suriname), Iran Aseman (Iran) and two companies from Iraq, Fly Baghdad and Iraqi Airways.

Furthermore, the countries that are included on the larger list of 129 banned flights include Afghanistan, Angola, Armenia, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Liberia, Libya, Nepal, Russia, Sao Tome and Principe, and Sudan.

Furthermore, all North Korea’s airlines are banned as are flights from Iran Air. However, certain airlines have seen their restrictions lifted by the EU. Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), which was banned in 2020, and Airblue Limited will both be allowed to operate in EU airspace again in the coming weeks.
