Ryanair bans couple from boarding flight despite allowing them to check in
Ryanair have stated they were in the right to stop the couple boarding
Ryanair have left a couple's Spain holiday plans in ruins after they were stopped from boarding the plane because of their passports. Abriella Monroe and her husband Sebastien had booked Ryanair flights to Tenerife but were not allowed on the plane once they got to the airport, even though they were allowed to check in without any problem.
Abriella, 32, and her husband Sebastien, 36, were planning to fly to the Spanish island to celebrate his birthday, but when they got to the boarding gate the couple were not allowed on the plane because of a tear along the spine of Sebastien’s passport.
After having arrived at Manchester Airport two hours early for their flight, there didn't appear to be a problem as they both checked-in without issue with their luggage being taken onto the plane.
Furthermore, the couple even managed to spend money in the duty free using the passport that was then refused at the gate when boarding the plane.
Abriella has since stated about the incident that "The man took a two-second look at it and said 'you can't travel on that'. He said there was a slight rip in it and couldn't accept it… We tried to reason with him and asked to speak to someone higher up, but it was no use."
After that moment, the couple were informed that they wouldn't be able to board, and had to wait for their luggage and Abriella's wheelchair to be taken off the plane, before having to leave the airport.
The couple then explained that they went through the border force exit, where they showed Sebastien’s passport and they said there was no problem with it.
Abriella stated in regards to the passport's condition that, "The passport is just slightly torn – we can fully see his details, passport number and his photograph."
In response, Ryanair has said that the passport was ripped on the identification page at the seam and across the page which is why it wasn't accepted at the gate for the flight.
