New pedestrian path in La Manga del Mar Menor set to be complete within a month
A 2.1-kilometre stretch of new pavement aims to complete a continuous pedestrian route along the Mar Menor strip

Work to connect sections of pavement and promenade in La Manga del Mar Menor is expected to be finished within the next month, according to the Mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, who visited the site this Monday March 23.
The project covers a 2.1-kilometre stretch between the recently opened Sports Park and Veneziola, and once complete will create a continuous pedestrian link running the length of La Manga. Mayor Luengo described the works as a key step in improving accessibility along the narrow strip that separates the Mediterranean from the Mar Menor.
He explained that the project has involved the construction of a pavement between 2 and 2.3 metres wide, designed to offer a safer and more comfortable route for walkers.

The total investment stands at €637,502.75, funded through the San Javier Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan. This forms part of Spain’s wider Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, backed by the European Union’s Next Generation funding programme.
During the visit, Luengo was joined by the Councillor for Tourism and Beaches, Estíbaliz Masegosa, as well as the Mayor of La Manga, José Guerrero, and other municipal representatives.
As well as extending the pedestrian route, the project has incorporated newer construction techniques, including permeable paving. This approach is intended to improve rainwater drainage along the busy Gran Vía, an area that can be prone to surface water during heavy downpours.
New street lighting has also been installed along the entire stretch, a measure the mayor said would “improve safety for both pedestrians and road users”, particularly during the evening and night-time hours.
Luengo expressed satisfaction with both the pace and the outcome of the works so far, and indicated that further improvement projects are planned for La Manga, continuing efforts to modernise infrastructure and enhance the area’s appeal for residents and visitors alike.
