Man dies after falling down irrigation ditch in tiny village between Orihuela and Murcia
The tragedy occurred in La Aparecida, a quiet hamlet in Orihuela’s Vega Baja area
A man has died in the Orihuela district of La Aparecida, a small rural hamlet in the Vega Baja del Segura area of Alicante, located between Orihuela city and the border with the Region of Murcia.
The man, believed to be between 40 and 45 years old, died after falling into a ditch in the Hoyico de la Virgen area. Emergency services were alerted at around 11.30pm after he went out to water his crops and did not return.
National Police and fire crews were deployed to the scene, where they found a car with its lights still on beside the irrigation ditch. A search operation was launched and continued for more than two hours across the surrounding area.
At around 1.30am, officers located the man’s body approximately 200 metres from his vehicle.
Authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
