Spain brings back grants for electric cars to boost sales
The Moves III plan offers money towards the purchase of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles

After scrapping the initiative at the start of the year, the Spanish government has decided to reactivate the Moves III programme in a desperate attempt to boost floundering electric car sales.
The scheme has a budget of €400 million and will offer motorists a subsidy of up to €7,000 when they purchase an electric or plug-in hybrid car. There is a stipulation that the vehicle must cost no more than €45,000 before tax.
And the best part is that the payment will be retroactive, so anyone who has bought an electric or hybrid model since January 1 will be eligible for the grant.
If you’re thinking of going green but aren’t sure where to start, look no further; we’ve rounded up five of the best electric and plug-in cars currently available that qualify for the state aid initiative.
1. Hyundai Inster
Hyundai's latest offering is the Inster, a compact city car that's surprisingly roomy and versatile. Available in two versions, the Inster boasts a range of 327 kilometres (97 horsepower) or 370 kilometres (115 horsepower). With a starting price of €24,990, it's an attractive option for town or city dwellers.
2. Kia EV3
The Kia EV3 is a 4.31-metre-long urban SUV that's flying off the shelves. Its spacious interior and single 150 kW/204 horsepower engine make it a compelling choice. With two battery options (58.3 kWh or 81.4 kWh), you can enjoy a range of 436 or 605 kilometres, respectively. Prices start at €29,000, including brand discounts.
3. Volvo EX30
Volvo's EX30 is the brand's entry-level electric model, a 4.23-metre-long SUV with a distinct personality. Available with three engine options (starting at 272 horsepower), the EX30 boasts a range of 344 kilometres in its entry-level ‘Single Motor’ version. With a starting price of €36,770, it's a great introduction to the world of luxury electric vehicles.
4. Peugeot E-3008
The Peugeot E-3008 is a 4.54-metre-long mid-size SUV with an attractive design and a spacious, well-equipped cabin. Using the Stellantis Group's STLA Medium platform, the E-3008 offers a range of up to 684 kilometres with its 93.6 kWh battery. Prices start at €45,600, making it a solid choice for those seeking a comfortable and feature-packed electric SUV.
5. BYD Seal U
BYD is a major player in the electric car market and the Seal U SUV is a notable addition to their line-up. With a range starting at 218 horsepower and two battery options, the Seal U is a great choice for those seeking a spacious and powerful electric vehicle. Available from €42,480, it's an attractive option for those who want it all.
