New neighbourhood group demands action for Campoamor

The Orihuela Costa-based group is demanding a major street clean-up and road paving works

Frustrated by years of what they call “neglect” by the Orihuela City Council, residents of Campoamor in Orihuela Costa have come together to form a new advocacy group: the Costa Campoamor Neighbourhood Association, or Asociación de vecinos Costa Campoamor. The association was created to give voice to long-standing concerns over poor infrastructure and public services in the area.

The group has wasted no time. On March 24, they submitted a letter to Costa Councillor Manuel Mestre, requesting a meeting to present a list of urgent issues, starting with the immediate clearing of the riverbed and banks of the ravines along their entire length in urban areas from the N-332 to Campoamor, which they say pose a health and safety risk, especially during fire and flood seasons.

Their demands also include paving crumbling roads, adding footpaths in neglected areas and replacing outdated waste containers. These issues, they argue, have gone unresolved for far too long, despite repeated calls for action.

The new association isn’t working alone. It plans to collaborate with other coastal advocacy groups, including Unidos por la Costa, to strengthen their voice and push for long-overdue improvements.

While the City Council has recently announced a one-million-euro investment in roadworks across Orihuela Costa, the residents of Campoamor are determined to ensure that their specific needs are no longer overlooked.
