With a total of 34 registered boats, eight more than the previous year, this competition demonstrates its constant growth and popularity, even reaching the point of having to close registrations early due to high demand.
Tomás Fuentes, president of the Regatta Club, highlights that “every year we see an increased interest in the Bahía de Mazarrón Regatta, which is reflected in the record number of boats registered this year.”
The event, scheduled for May 11 and 12, will take place along the impressive coast of Mazarrón, and will feature the participation of some of the leading racers from Murcia, Andalusia and Alicante.
Ginés Campillo stated that the test is of great importance in numerous areas for the municipality, adding “The Bahía de Mazarrón is a great attraction for tourism promotion, quality and nautical sports in the municipality. When I was Mayor 12 years ago, we understood its potential and today, we continue to recognise the excellent work of the club in promoting this event is a source of pride not only for the great spectacle it offers, but also for the environment unique to our bay and the activities that make people feel welcome.”
Furthermore, he did not miss the opportunity to thank the Regatta Club for the effort and dedication in making this event grow year after year.
For her part, María Isabel Carrillo has praised the consolidation of the regatta in the local sports calendar, highlighting its role in promoting tourism and outdoor sports in the region: “the Bahía de Mazarrón Regatta is not only a top-level sports competition, but also a catalyst promoting tourism and nautical activity in our region.”
With two rounds scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, each covering a route of almost 14 nautical miles from Cueva de Lobos to La Azohía, the regatta promises to be visually spectacular and impressive.
The director of the event, Pedro Juan Pérez, wanted to make clear the commitment to provide a unique experience for both participants and spectators: “Our goal is to place the competition as close to the coast as possible so that everyone can “enjoy the exciting event from dry land.”
In addition to the competition at sea, the event will offer activities, which will begin on Friday with the welcome to the crews arriving from Cartagena, followed by food provided by the Sur Mares restaurant. On Saturday night, members, fans and participants will meet at the Regatta Club for a barbecue, while on Sunday it will conclude with a giant paella in the same place.
