Decomposing body discovered on patio of Luxury Torrevieja villa
The homeowner raised the alarm after finding a bloodied and partially decomposed body in La Veleta
The Guardia Civil are investigating after a body showing signs of violence was found inside a property in the exclusive La Veleta residential area of Torrevieja on Friday July 10.
The homeowner raised the alarm at around 2pm after discovering a bloodied and partially decomposed body lying in the patio, prompting officers to be dispatched to the scene straight away.
Officers from the Torrevieja station were joined by forensic specialists and experts from the Criminalistics Laboratory, who arrived at the property that afternoon to carry out a detailed inspection. The body is understood to have shown injuries consistent with a bladed weapon.
An arrest has already been made in connection with the case, according to sources close to the investigation.
Once the judicial commission arrived at the villa, authorisation was given for the body to be removed, and it was later taken to the Institute of Legal Medicine in Alicante.
La Veleta sits just south of Torrevieja, close to the border with Orihuela, and is known for its beachfront setting and mix of single-family homes and apartment blocks dating back to the 1990s and 2000s.
The property at the centre of the investigation is reportedly home to a Spanish man, with his brother, who co-owns the house, said to visit frequently. By Friday afternoon, once officers had left the scene, the house had been locked up with a vehicle still parked on the grounds.
Despite the time of year, much of the narrow street where the property sits, tucked between the coastline and Avenida Desiderio Rodríguez, remains quiet, with several neighbouring villas currently for sale, undergoing renovation or simply shut up for now.
