Click HereThe 7.1-kilometre coastal path which takes walkers to and from the isolated and unspoilt coves of Bolnuevo in the municipality of Mazarrón has been awarded “Sendero Azul” status, in recognition of its environmental significance and its role in promoting the preservation of the natural environment.
The route begins at the main beach of Bolnuevo before entering unspoilt territory within the protected area of the Sierra de las Moreras. During the walk it is possible to see some of the protected islets of the Mediterranean as well as the Natural Monument of the “gredas” (wind-eroded rocks in Bolnuevo).
In the interests of promoting sustainable tourism which is compatible with the preservation of nature, the Town Hall of Mazarrón has been improving this path and others like it, encouraging educational as well as leisure visits. Along the same lines, other recent advances include the opening of the Centro de Interpretación de la Naturaleza in the old schoolhouse of Bolnuevo and the restoration of the water storage pools in the Rambla de las Moreras for use in environmental education.
Councillor Raquel Raja describes the Sendero Azul status as a recognition of the hard work put in by the Council of Mazarrón, advancing the cause of sustainable tourism as well as attracting visitors and tourism.
