Online gamblers in Murcia face a €700-a-day deposit cap from March. Here's who it affects
Anyone in the Region of Murcia who bets or plays casino games online will soon have one spending limit covering every website and app they use.
From March 25, 2027, the total you can pay into Spanish-licensed gambling sites will be capped at €700 a day, €1,750 a week and €3,300 over four weeks, however many accounts you hold.
The change comes from a royal decree (520/2026) published in the BOE on June 25, and Spain's gambling regulator, the DGOJ, will keep track of it.

What is actually changing?
At the moment, each site sets its own deposit limit, so someone with three accounts has three separate allowances. The DGOJ says around 31% of people who gamble online in Spain use more than one site.
From March, the DGOJ will add up each person's deposits in real time, whichever site or payment method is used. A six-month trial runs first.
Only online gambling is covered. Bingo halls, arcades and betting shops here are licensed by the Region of Murcia under its own gambling law, so a bet placed over the counter in Cartagena or Lorca is not counted. Nor does the cap alter how winnings are taxed: as online-gambling.com's guide to Spain's gambling rules explains, money won at online casinos and betting sites goes into the annual IRPF return as a capital gain, with losses deductible up to the amount won, while state lottery prizes are taxed separately at source.
Can you raise it?
Yes, but not on impulse. Lowering the limit takes effect straight away, while a request to raise or remove it goes through the DGOJ's own system and only applies three working days later. Anyone who has just raised their limit must then wait three months before asking again, and every request comes with information on gambling risks first.
The RGIAJ self-exclusion register still blocks access to every licensed site, and FEJAR runs a free helpline on 900 200 225.
What will it mean day to day?
Someone who puts €10 on the weekend football would have to do it 70 times in a single day to reach the daily cap. Where it bites is spread-out spending: pay €300 into each of three sites on the same day and the third payment takes you over the daily cap. For many residents the only flutter of the year is a Christmas Lottery ticket, and there the question that matters is how much of an El Gordo prize you actually keep, not how much can be paid in.
The deposit cap joins the EU's new €10,000 ceiling on cash payments as the second money limit arriving in 2027. Operators have until March to connect to the DGOJ system.
