Click HereThe promotion of Mazarrón at this year’s FITUR international tourism fair in Madrid, the second largest event of its kind in the world, emphasized the development of sustainable tourism in the municipality as well as the traditional sun, sea and sand which has been attracting more and more visitors since the mid-20th century.
At the same time, those stopping off at the Mazarrón stand were invited to taste some of the typical local food produce, including tomatoes and salted fish, which has been made here since the time of the Romans: the salted fish factory in Puerto de Mazarrón can still be seen today and is home to the local archaeological museum.
Apart from ecological concerns, one of the reasons for promoting and developing sustainable tourism in this part of the Costa Cálida is to contribute towards the de-seasonalisztion of the tourism sector, the thinking being that efforts need to be made to ensure that the sunsets which people enjoyed here 2,000 years ago can still be appreciated in 2,000 years’ time.
Joining the delegation from Mazarrón at the IFEMA centre in Madrid were Mayor Gaspar Miras, Deputy Mayor Ginés Campillo and the Councillor for Tourism, Raquel Raja.
