The neighbourhood of San Antón in Cartagena celebrated the main events of its fiestas on Tuesday January 17, the day of its patron saint, with its traditional Mass and other official acts.San Antón is the patron saint and protector of animals, and every year on the Feast of San Antón of January 17, towns and cities around Spain hold special events for pets, such as the ritual blessing of animals by a local priest. In Cartagena, the parish priest blessed a series of pets who were all brought by their owners to the steps of the church, while horses and carriages also won their traditional trophies. The day was rounded off with the celebration of the Baile del vermut dance, in the Casino de San Antón.Images: Ayuntamiento de Cartagena
