ARCHIVED - Hearing loud bangs over Lorca? This is why...
Don’t be alarmed if you hear booming sounds in the sky over Lorca this month. There’s a reasonable explanation
People living in and around Lorca may hear banging and booming noises that sound like rockets or gunfire over the next few days, but don’t worry. It’s not the Spanish Armada coming.
The Ayuntamiento in Lorca has assured residents that any bangs they might hear are part of the Tactical Leadership Program of the Spanish Air Force, which is taking place from September 19 to 29.
This Air Force training includes “the performance of supersonic flights on these days from 3.30pm to 5.30pm, which could produce the perception of some sonic booms on the surface,” say sources from the Town Hall.
Flights that break the sound barrier and make these sonic boom noises are being limited to these times in order to minimise disruption to local residents.
