More than 1,300 earthquakes recorded in Granada in two weeks
More than 50 tremors were detected on Saturday alone, including a 2.3-magnitude earthquake near Otura

Granada experienced another 53 earthquakes on August 29 as the latest spell of seismic activity continued across the city and surrounding area. Three of the tremors were felt by residents, although most were too small to notice.
The strongest measured 2.3 on the Richter scale and was recorded near Otura at 8.57 am. It reached an intensity of III and was felt in around a dozen locations, including Granada city.
A 1.6-magnitude earthquake near Dílar was felt at 2.07 am, while another tremor, measuring 1.3, was recorded near Alhendín at 12.40 am and was also felt.
The latest figures from the Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN) show just how active the area has been over the past two weeks.
Since the 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Alhendín in the early hours of Saturday August 15, more than 1,300 tremors have been recorded across Granada and its metropolitan area.
That earthquake, which struck at 1.04 am, caused damage to homes and buildings and left residents across the area understandably concerned.
It also wasn't the first sign that something was happening underground. Four other earthquakes had been recorded in the southern part of the Vega de Granada in the hours before the 5.0-magnitude tremor struck. The activity has continued ever since, although the vast majority of the earthquakes have been small.
Of Saturday's 53 tremors, around 10 measured less than magnitude 1. Another 41 were above magnitude 1, while the 2.3-magnitude earthquake near Otura was the only one to pass magnitude 2.
For residents, however, even small earthquakes can be unsettling when they keep happening. The past two weeks have seen inspections of properties affected by the earthquakes, along with calls for help from people dealing with damage to their homes.
The latest figures don't mean that 1,300 significant earthquakes have hit the region. Most have been too weak to be felt, but they show just how persistent the activity has been.
The IGN continues to monitor the earthquakes as the situation develops.
