Brittany Ferries announces whale-watching cruises between Ireland and Spain
The Sea Safari cruises will travel between Rosslare and Bilbao, Spain from July

Brittany Ferries has just announced an exciting ‘Sea Safari’ package aboard its liners for the summer season, where passengers can explore the wonders of the ocean on bespoke whale and dolphin watching expeditions. The packages will be available on the company’s direct ferry service between Ireland and Spain, operating twice-weekly from Rosslare to Bilbao.
The three-night round trips will depart on Fridays and prices will start from 279 euros per person when two people share a four-berth inside cabin (without a vehicle). Passengers will have the opportunity to accompany experts from the whale and dolphin-watching charity, ORCA. In support of the charity, 60 euros from each ticket will be donated to aid in their conservation efforts.

The Celtic Sea and Bay of Biscay, which the ferries traverse en route to Bilbao, provide a unique opportunity for passengers to observe a variety of marine life, including common and Risso’s dolphins, minke and fin whales, and even the occasional blue whale, the company explained in a statement.
“As shallow waters fall rapidly to depths of over 4,000 metres, it makes Biscay Bay one of the richest locations in the world for whale and dolphin-spotting.”
“While views are best enjoyed from Deck 10, guests will also have the opportunity to discover and learn all about whales and dolphins, when not on deck with binoculars.”

Passengers will arrive in Bilbao in the morning and have a brief period to explore the city before departing later that day.
Brittany Ferries’ Ireland-to-Spain route is serviced by three vessels, including the cruise ferry Salamanca, capable of carrying 1,015 passengers across 321 cabins, as well as sister ships Santoña and Galicia. The company welcomes both car and foot passengers, as well as freight traffic.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, Sea Safari guests are recommended to bring binoculars with 8 or 10x magnification, non-slip deck shoes, layered clothing for varying weather conditions and sun protection.
In addition to the thrill of whale watching, passengers can indulge in a range of onboard activities and amenities, such as varied dining options, comfortable cabins, video-on-demand entertainment, great value shopping and live entertainment.
