Aguilas raises its media profile on TV and radio
The town in Murcia is to be featured in a popular Spanish travel show, which is being aired this Sunday
Anyone who has ever been to any of Águilas’s truly impressive and natural beaches will know it is a place that needs no extra garlands for the quality tourist experience it offers.
Even so, that hasn’t stopped an influential Spanish travel programme from featuring the Murcia coastal town in one of its newest episodes, to be aired this weekend.
The television series ‘Senderos con Juan y Migas’, which translates to ‘Walks with Juan and Migas’ centres around a born traveller named Juan Frutos and his dog and best friend, Migas, as they explore countries around the world.
Produced by the Colours Communication Group in collaboration with the television channel RTVE, Senderos con Juan y Migas is directed by Juan himself, and in the second season of the show, the pair make a stop in Águilas.
This Sunday, February 25, at 8.30pm on Spanish TV channel La 2 de TVE, you can watch as Juan and Migas visit the province of Almería before crossing into the Region of Murcia and arriving in Águilas.
The episode shows how they visit the town’s lovely castle, the Plaza de España main town square, the Cabo Cope Regional Park and the beaches of Playa del Hornillo and Playa Amarilla, among other places.
Juan is a journalist, a lover of sport, extreme adventure, an expert bushcrafter and a great connoisseur of the natural world. Migas, his trusty companion, is a friendly and brave dog, a cross between a Maltese bichon and a water dog, who doesn't give in to anything.
Juan’s relationship with Migas and the experiences in the motorhome which they travelled around in during the first season caught viewers’ imaginations and for the second season there are a number of surprises in store for the duo.
Águilas on the airwaves
In a smaller but no less important media appearance this week, the Mayor of Águilas, Mari Carmen Moreno, was a guest on the podcast ‘Un Podcast Con Mucha Clase’ (‘A Podcast With Lots of Class’) created by students from the CEIP San Juan de las Águilas school
Broadcast on the school’s own radio station ‘San Juan en las Ondas’, the show is produced by the pupils themselves, who interviewed the Mayor on air.
Mayor Moreno congratulated San Juan de las Águilas “for this magnificent initiative”.
“The school radio is, without a doubt, a tool that will allow the students to work as a team, improve their linguistic and oral communication skills,” she said, adding that it “will have a very positive impact on the education of the students at this school”.
If visiting Águilas, your first port of call should be the local tourist office (click here for map, telephone 0034 968 493 285, email turismo@aguilas.es).
